An early new years' resolution: make my life interesting enough to blog.

Eye Contact

F*ing rude! Do you really have to follow every waitress that crosses the room!?! It's distracting, it's demeaning and it's rude!! Ugh!

Goodbye my Little One...

Sixteen years is a long time in the life of a dog - not that it makes it any easier - but it was time.

Such a sweet little girl. I have met very few pets with such strong personalities. When she was still small, she used to fight for my father's attention. Whenever he was on the phone she would sit at his feet, bark until he picked her up and slap him in the face if he did not pet her.

My parents brought her to Charlotte a few times when the would visit. One weekend we left the apartment for a little while and shut her in the bathroom. It was obvious she was not happy when we returned... she had pulled all the toilet paper off the roll. :)

When my parents did all of the work on their house, each morning my father would set out his tools for the day and she would bring in all of her stuffed animals and lay them among his hammers and screwdrivers.

For a while she was on a kick where she'd want to go for a walk every evening. She'd move at a snails pace to the end of the cul-de-sac then run all the way back to the house, to the point where I'd get shin-splints trying to keep up with her.

In the last few months, she's been really sick. They said it was a tumor on her brain. She had difficulty walking and needed constant supervision. We hand-fed her and would rock her to sleep like a newborn baby. She was getting better, walking on her own without falling, etc. Then yesterday we ended up back at square-one.

The house is awfully still without her here...

I think I want to move west...

I LOVED Aspen! It was beyond beautiful there and there was such a great vibe that I could see myself living there. It's an expensive place to live, that's the only negative. Do I really want to work three jobs just to pay rent? Hmm... For a town that's 10 sexy guys to 1 girl, I might consider working myself to death for a year or two...

Two Weeks Work in Aspen

Who would turn it down? Well, not me anyway. So I leave in a day or so, and I can't wait!! The good news: I'll get a few days off while I'm there... Maybe I'll take-up skiing. :)

"I have someone I want you to meet..."

Weird morning. I've never had a male friend try and set me up. Am I reading too much into this comment? I am a bit freaked out by it all, especially when it comes from my crush.

What happened to February?

LA was wonderful! So much so, in fact, that I could see myself living there. Of course, I feel that way about most cities that I visit.

Work has been keeping me busy, but I am still loving my job. :) I've just completed day 7 of 7 (I traded days for my trip to LA and haven't had a day off since) and I am going in for a few hours tomorrow to learn how to work the front counter.

Oprah rocks! Did anyone see the show tonight on her school in South Africa?

Rant...

Look men, I understand the comfort in buying pants a size (or two) too big, no waist band digging into the belly whatever... But PLEASE keep your drawers up around your waist! The last thing I want to see (after eating lunch today) is your ass crack!!

Heading West...

So, I am leaving for LA in another day or so. Yea!! I am thankful for warmer weather, especially with the storm that is heading this way. Watch for me Friday night on the Jimmy Kimmel Show - we have tickets to be part of the studio audience. I AM SO EXCITED!! I've never done the 'studio audience' thing...

I went shopping for a new pair of jeans today since mine do not fit me anymore (in a good way). I am trying to be a good airline employee and only travel with a carry-on suitcase. This is not as easy as I thought it would be - too many shoe options. :) I can be such a girl sometimes!

Long day at work - 13 hours. Good, but long. I had a nice conversation with my boss today. He made me feel really good about the work I've been doing. :)

Advice please...

What should I do when my boss makes a comment like, "You two must have been brother and sister in a previous life, the way you carry on..?" Back off and leave the guy alone or just ignore it and keep up the banter?

Oops!!

Last week I fell asleep with my computer on my bed. It was turned off, but I had fallen asleep before I could set it on the floor, like I usually do. Sometime in my sleep I kicked my poor PC off the end of my bed and when I woke the next morning it would not even turn on... Funny, this thing has been halfway around the world with me, but one bad night and everything is gone. Luckily, I bought the Dell Complete Care coverage. I called Tech Support on Thursday, shipped my computer on Friday and was shocked when DHL knocked on my door this afternoon (Tuesday). I am SO happy to have my computer back!! And from now on, I promise not to try and sleep with my computer any more.

The Skinny on the New Job

I have been working for an airline as a customer service agent for a little over a month now. Since training, I have spent all of my time on the ramp marshalling in planes, loading and unloading baggage, etc. It's very physical - so far I have lost 10 lbs and I am developing some serious muscles in my arms. :) It's also very exciting - every day is different and can be very challenging. I really like my new job. I also like the travel opportunities. I have four more weeks of training (once they decide to send me) before I can work at the ticket counter, so I will be out on the ramp for a while. So far I've seen snow (Denver) and plenty of rain, but we've had some pretty nice days out there too and I'm looking forward to spring/summer out there...

I've received various levels of approval for my decision to work on the ramp. Mom didn't like the bruises I had my first few weeks - I had to get used to handling bags and they've since disappeared. My grandmother doesn't seem too thrilled that I am in a job that is not very feminine. Friends don't really say much, but I think they are expecting this to be temporary...

I don't know if this is a new career path for me or if I will eventually return to a classroom. I am having a difficult time thinking that far in advance. What's most important to me is that I can wake up day after day and enjoy, as well as feel challenged by, what I do...

Itching for excitement

Denver was cool. At least what I saw of it: the airport and the hotel. We worked our asses off with min twelve hour days. At night I crashed at the hotel cold, wet and aching, but it was GREAT!! I'd go back in a heartbeat (but not permanently - they work TOO hard over there).

I am ready to DO something. I was going to drive to Charlotte this morning, but went in to work instead... What was I thinking?!? I've gotta get out and about - here or somewhere else, I don't care. There's only so much time you can spend hanging out with the 'rents...

How Would You Like To Go To Denver For A Few Days To Work?

That's what my manager called and asked me today. Always up for an adventure, I immediately said YES, then I decided to check the weather... What have I gotten myself into?!? I work outside. My southern ass is not used to highs in the teens. What was I thinking!?!?

Actually, it should be pretty cool. They are sending about a dozen of us out there to help out on the ramp. It'll definitely be an adventure. I fly out tomorrow and have a suitcase full of warm layers, long johns and even a jumpsuit. It'll be hard work in very cold conditions, but somehow I'm really excited about going.

Maybe I'll even get a chance to see a little of Denver.

In A Nutshell

It's funny how time just gets away from you. I feel like it was only weeks since I was in Charlotte last, but it has been months - two to be exact. I guess a lot has happened in that time (and in the four months that I have been home from England), but on a day-to-day basis my life is pretty dull. And that (along with internet access issues) is the reason that I haven't really posted.

The holidays were nice. Thanksgiving was a big party with thirty dinner guests and a few more for dessert. I loved being in town for both Hanukkah and Christmas. Although, I had to work on X-mas, so I dropped by my grandparents' house beforehand and hung out before work. My sister and brother-in-law drove down for a few days, which was really cool (I haven't seen them in two years!). I had to work on New Years' Eve, but made it home in time to drink some champagne with the 'rents.

I spent a week in Salt Lake City for training for my new job and have completed three weeks on the ramp. It's exciting and challenging (physically) and I like it. I'm not sure where this will lead, but for now I like that I am building muscle, dropping weight and getting an opportunity to travel.
